My Life

Painting is a therapeutic outlet for Charlie. He is very outspoken and public with his battles with bipolar disorder and uses his painting as an expression of his emotional state and therapy. Many of his paintings will be extremely vibrant and full of energy and movement, having been painted during his manic state. Others will be brooding, dark and somber, typically painted during his depressive side.

All of his art work falls under his mantra of "up cycle or die." Canvases used are recycled, having been purchased at thrift stores. In addition, all of the paints used are either given to him by friends, mistints from big box retailers, or leftovers from other projects. They range from acrylics and oils latex house paints, to enamel spray paints or anything else he can get his hands on. Other materials used include wooden blocks as paint brushes and rain water, vodka and gin to affect the layering and drying times of the paints.
